Please remember to regularly visit the School Calendar to see all events that are happening across the school.

Kia ora Whānau

I hope you all had a great weekend. Whilst it was a bit cooler this morning it was nice to see the sun and everyday the weather gets a little warmer. As the term continues to race by, we begin to think about all of the end of year activities, the summer sports, the EOTC events and we are even planning for next year!

Over the coming weeks we will start to share with you more information around what next year will look like, where everyone will be and any relevant property updates with regards to the redevelopment.

Back to this week however there is one thing that is on everyone's mind and that is the PTA Twilight Fair, which is this Friday! As we all start to prepare for what will no doubt be an exceptional event I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the PTA, especially the fair organising committee for the huge (and yes it is huge!) amount of work that has already gone into the planning, preparation and organisation. I hope to see as many of you as possible at the fair, bring along some change and enjoy the night.

Ngā mihi nui

Gavin Burn

Christchurch Music festival: Theme--All things great and small

What a privilege it was to be at the Horncastle arena on Friday night to hear the fabulous choirs, concert band and symphony orchestra from across schools in Christchurch. The Tōtara choir were part of the massed choir and there were a number of Totara students in special groups as well.

Congratulations to all the children who took part and a special mention to those children who were chosen to be in special groups, which is a real honour: Jack Calder - senior choir ,Hana McMillan - junior choir , Charlotte Beasley - concert band and Lucy Watt - Symphony orchestra. It was a joyous occasion , enjoyed by all and so good to see the children share their love of music by entertaining us all.  A huge thank you to all the children who took part, the parents for all their support by transporting ( many across several nights) and attending , staff and a special thank you to Kate Divett,  lead teacher of the arts at Cashmere, whose enthusiasm, passion and expertise is truly valued by us all.

School Notices

Parking at School - The safety of our children is important to us all.

Thank you for the noticeable change in parking on Hackthorne Rd in the P3 Zone. We acknowledge how difficult parking can be around drop off and pick up times. If we keep this P3 zone ‘moving’ it will enable many more children to be safely dropped off to school or collected.

In addition to this please note that the staff carpark is for staff only and is not a space for dropping off and collecting your children. This is also our pedestrian access to and from the road crossing and we can not have cars entering and exiting the carpark alongside children and whānau.

Our Cultural Narrative

Please click here to see the overview of our cultural narrative, including all of the new names for our buildings, learning teams and our school.  In addition to this, please feel free to listen to a brief audio file where Corban Te Aika shares the correct pronunciation of these new names.

SchoolDocs Update

The board of trustees and the school are excited to share with you that we are now a ‘SchoolDocs School’. This will mean that there is a significant change in the way that our policies and procedures are presented and reviewed. We have now adopted all SchoolDocs policies and procedures and these can be accessed through our school website. Please note that as we work through this transition there may be some differences between current policy/procedure and practice, e.g. some of the EOTC documentation will be used from the beginning of 2017.

 Sports Uniforms

Please return all Totara Choir and Tennis uniforms plus any others that have not been returned from other events.

Property Update

As things continue to progress on the build site (check out the blog) we are getting closer and closer to moving into our new learning hub (Karamū). If you have any questions around any aspect of the redevelopment or teaching and learning at CPS then please feel free to drop in and see me for a chat, call or email principal@cashmereprimary.school.nz

In addition to this myself and Brian Ellwood (BOT Chair) will be available on Friday the 18th of November from 8.30 - 9.15am for a coffee and a chat in the staffroom if you have any questions you would like answered.

 ERO Report

We have recently received our confirmed ERO report (external evaluation) and would like to take this opportunity to share this with you, and celebrate all of the great things about our school. Click here to read.

Halloween is fast approaching. Would be lovely to see the kids out trick or treating. It can often be hard to tell which houses to call to, especially with the complex driveways of Cashmere.  If your house are welcoming of trick or treaters could you please put a ribbon or balloon on your postbox or gate so the kids know where to go?

 Summer Holiday Nanny Available

Hi, my name is Olivia Gray. I am 19 years old and I have just completed my first year of university. I am looking for a job as a Nanny over the 2016/2017 summer holiday. I am available from the 14/11/16 till mid-February 2017.

I have had a lot of experience looking after kids. Last year I had a gap year and I worked as a group leader and activities instructor at a children’s holiday camp in France. I also volunteered as a teacher in Fiji for 3 months. In Fiji I worked full time to help students struggling with reading and writing as well as taking sports, drama and library classes.
