Kia ora Whānau

Welcome to Term 4! I hope you have all had an enjoyable break with your whānau and are looking forward to the summer term. We have many exciting events planned for our final term of the year and are looking forward to sharing these with you. Please diary these important events (for the end of year events see below) and check out the School Calendar.

Today we welcome a new staff member to our team, Nicki McFadzien. Nicki will be teaching for the remainder of the year in LS16 (Matai Team) and takes over from Francis Ganderton.

I hope you all have a great first week back as we settle into our school time routines :)

Ngā mihi nui

At the conclusion of the assembly, year 8 children and their Whānau are invited to stay for a catch up and a cuppa.

Important Notices

Children's safety

Your child's/children's safety is of absolute paramount importance for us and we have systems in place to ensure we know where your children are once they arrive at school until they are collected at the end of a school day. No child is ever permitted to leave the school grounds during the school day unless they are accompanied by their parents/designated caregiver and the teacher has been notified. In the unlikely situation where a child is seen to be leaving the school grounds by you, during school time, and they are unaccompanied please encourage them to remain at school and contact the school office immediately for support.

Sun Hats

A reminder that children are required to wear school regulation sunhats in term 4. These may be purchased through the school uniform shop at a cost of $15 each.

Property Update - Cultural Narrative

We will soon be able to share with you the new Māori names for our buildings, learning spaces and learning teams. Our cultural narrative and associated names will be based around the Kererū.

Whilst there is likely to be a significant change in the current names we use to identify our learning teams and buildings this is a unique opportunity and a very exciting time for the school. These names will be significant to our local area, unique to our school and they will be names (in te reo) that the children, staff and whānau will (in time) use everyday.

Property Update : School Field

We are hoping to be able to use the school field, or parts of it this week. This is still weather dependent and initially, it might just be used during learning time for PE, fitness and sport.

New Build: Notice of Road Closure

This Thursday the 13th, there will be a lane closure, on Hackthorne Road due to lifting of roof panels from the roadside. This is due to happen between the hours of 9am – 2 30pm, weather permitting.

Congratulations

The 2016 Inter Regional Cross Country Champs were held in Waikanae on Thursday the 22nd of September with 5 Cashmere Primary Students representing Canterbury. It was a tough course but a great day for Canterbury winning the Phil Costley Shield for the first time since 2011. Home Stay required Term 1 and 2, 2017

We have a girl from China coming into the Totara Team for 2 terms in 2017. She will require a family to live with who will treat her as their own whist she is here. The Chinese family pay the Homestay family weekly to have their child looked after. The girl would need her own room. It would be a great cultural experience for any family.  Does this sound like you?

Please contact Cathy Andrew (DP)  cathy.andrew@cashmereprimary.school.nz or phone CPS if you would like to be considered for this or if you have any other questions.
