Kia ora Whānau

I can not believe that spring is here already and that after this week there is only three more weeks of term! This term is flying by and for us as a staff, we have been as busy as ever. The opportunity to come together for a whole day this week (our staff only day) was extremely beneficial and valued by all staff. We had the opportunity to share our practices, beliefs and vision for collaborative teaching and learning at Cashmere Primary School and had the opportunity to learn from each other through some teacher led workshops.

Over the past weeks we have also had our mid year appraisal meetings where all staff confidently shared, the in depth knowledge that they have of all learners, the practices that are working well and the plans that they have in place for the remainder of the year to ensure that every child achieves his or her potential.

We have so many great things happening in our school, amazing learners, truly professional and dedicated staff and a fully committed and supportive parent community. I often reflect with colleagues on what a wonderful place Cashmere Primary School is and I would like to thank everyone for their continued involvement, commitment and contributions to our school.

Enjoy the rest of your week and the warm spring weather ahead.

Ngā mihi nui

Gavin Burn

Property Update

The recent mild and dry winter weather conditions have helped HRS Construction make good progress with the construction of the New Learning Hub.  The first floor steel frame was erected during the first week in August and the timber framing for the outside walls are now complete (refer to photos/blog).  After scaffold edge protection is installed, the steel reinforcement for the suspended first floor slab will be placed.  The concrete slab will then be poured starting very early one morning early to mid-September.  After the concrete has ‘cured’ for around one week (as concrete gains strength over time), the steel framing for the first floor and roof will be craned into position.  The design team (influenced by the school’s cultural narrative) has now selected the interior wall, floor and ceiling colours based on the colours of the Kererū (New Zealand wood pigeon) and there is only another five months left to go until the New Learning Hub is completed.

A Message from Joshua Ogilvie our Site Manager

Can you please pass on my many thanks and gratitude to all children, parents, and Staff for their perseverance and patience thus far during construction of the new hub, especially during road lane closures and noise disruptions. All tracking well, there should be only one more major crane lift from the road, in approx. 3 weeks.

The response by all affected has been great, and a great credit to Cashmere Primary. HRS will do our best to continue/reciprocate the efforts so far.

Most appreciated.

Regards, Joshua Ogilvie – Site Manager
