Ngā Whānau Kōrero o Te Kura Tuatahi o te Iringa o Kahukura.

Issue 27:  5th of September 2016

Please remember to regularly visit the School Calendar to see all events that are happening across the school.

Kia ora Whānau

Firstly, thank you to the PTA for organising and running a very successful school disco. From what I have heard the students thoroughly enjoyed it (as did the parents who joined in on the dance floor), it was a great venue and there was lots of dancing, socialising and glowing, great times !

Secondly, thank you to all of the parents, whānau, children and staff who turned up at the working bee on Saturday. A great start was made on the new edible garden area and some truly gigantic agapanthus plants were removed. It was a huge effort by all involved. Watch this space (on the path going to the pool) as the garden takes shape over the coming months.

Thank you also to the many children and parents who helped shift a massive amount of bark up the hill and stairs to the junior playground area.

Finally, please read the reminder below about this weeks NZEI Paid Union Meeting (PUM) and make sure that you have let the school know your intentions so we can ensure all children get home safely.

Ngā mihi nui

Gavin Burn

School Notices

Property Update - Cultural Narrative

As we continue with the school redevelopment we have the perfect opportunity to name (or rename) our new buildings, existing buildings, learning spaces and learning teams. We are currently working with Mātauraka Mahaanui (our local iwi) to identify culturally significant names for our school. These names will be significant to our local area, unique to our school and they will be names (in te reo) that the children will use everyday.

Staffing Update

We would like to announce that we have a new staff member joining us from Term 4. Nicki McFadzien will be joining the team and teaching in LS16 in the Matai Team. We welcome Nicki to our school and look forward to having her join our teaching team.

John Quinn & Lucy Hone

Thank you to everyone who attending this informative and valuable presentation last Tuesday. Our second session with John and Lucy built on the first providing a ‘model of wellbeing’ that we can use for ourselves, our children and possibly at school. Some of their key messages centered around the need to focus on positive emotions and the benefits of doing so.

Athletics Day

The Athletics day is only a couple of weeks away and the planning is in full motion. We are in need of quite a few parents to assist on the day to bring this awesome event to life. If you could please fill out this link for parent helpers by CLICKING HERE or copy and pasting the link in the attached document into your browser and fill it out that would be great.

Please note the Athletics day is only for ages 8 and older as of 1st October 2016. So this won't apply to some year 3's.

Permission slips

  1. Click here to complete forms for Athletics Day. Please fill out if you would like to take your child home from Hansen Park, Opawa. Please return to your child's classroom teacher.

  2. If your child is going to run in the long distance races (1000m Years 8,9,10 and 1200m,  Yrs 11, 12 and 13) there is also a permission slip needing to be handed into your child's teacher which mentions that you will take your child to Hansen Park in the morning instead of busing from school.

If you don't fill out any forms and return them before 9th September then your child will be busing to and from the venue from Cashmere Primary.  Your child will participate in all events on the day but has a choice to race in the long distance races. Your child will be asked this by your child's teacher over the next day or two.  Click here to see the Rotation order for the day.  All documents relating to the athletics day will be posted on the Ultranet over the next week.   If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Coin trail to raise money for Maddie Collins

My name is Harriet and I am a year 8 student at Cashmere Primary School. On the 16th of September, I have organised to do a coin trail to raise money for a 12 year old Christchurch girl called Maddie Collins. Maddie needs people to help her raise $350,000.00 to go to America to get a new kidney. If your child would like to support Maddie, please bring a gold coin to school on the 16th. Please bring your coin to the office before school or during school and get your child to put their coin on the picture in the office.  Lots of school have chosen to support Maddie by doing a Mufti day but we have decided to do a coin trail instead.

If you would like any more information about Maddie, please click the link:

Thank you for your support.
