Kia ora Whānau

Welcome back everyone! I hope you have all had an enjoyable two weeks with your children. I personally, have managed to spend a lot more time at home with our two children and I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Today we welcome into our school a team from the Education Review Office (ERO). We are looking forward to sharing the many great things about our school and look forward to this external review.

I look forward to catching up with everyone over the next few weeks, as always please feel free to email me or drop in and see me if there is anything you would like to discuss.

School Notices

Welcome to our International Families

We have 3 International families starting with us this term and we wish them a very happy time at Cashmere Primary. The families are excited to be living in a new country and giving their children the opportunity to learn English and about our culture. It is a great opportunity for our children to learn from them as well. Ann Ann has come to us from Vietnam and she will be in year 8. Yi, from China, is in the Nest and Maggie, also from China, is in year 4. We know that the Cashmere community will give the children and their mums a very warm welcome.

Congratulations to Molly Corlet who has received the Sir Peter Blake Young Leader Award for 2016.  Molly is a member of our Student Year 8 Executive for 2016. She performs a very special role in our school and student community as our New Entrant Transition Leader for 2016. She has amazed us from the moment she was announced in this role at the end of 2015.

She displays great enthusiasm and dedication and has really embraced being a role model, she communicates very well, and can relate to both students and teachers. Molly is responsible for liaising with our New Entrant Team and Rata Team Leader to ensure all new entrant students are paired a Year 8 Buddy for a 6 week introduction to Cashmere Primary School. She has well and truly got the buddy programme humming. Always using initiative, and she never complains about anything (and dedicates a huge amount of her own break times to this responsibility).

Turning 5 Seminar

We will be holding our second 'Turning 5 Seminar' for the year, on Friday 29 July at 8:55 am in the staffroom.  This seminar is for parents of children who are turning 5 over the next few months.  Pre-schoolers are welcome and will be cared for by our wonderful Year 8 students in the library.  All are welcome to attend.

Children Turning 5 This Year

If you have a child who is going to be starting school in 2016, please pop into the office to collect an enrollment form.  It is really helpful for us when planning our New Entrant classes if we are aware of students who are going to be starting at Cashmere Primary this year.  Thank you.

Inclusive Learning Group (ILG)

Sophie Chapman, Toby Beresford, Chloe Donaldson, Joseph  McAllum and Ella Wallace are on the committee of the ILG. Their goal is to support children across the school in any way they can.  They have been working really hard and have 2 very exciting things happening in term 3. They have been sharing this message with the children at school.

ILG have purchased 2 seats, with funds raised through a mufti day. These seats will be placed in the playground for children to use. The first seat is the ‘Helping hand’ chair which has handprints on it. The second chair is called the ‘Games chair’ and has a checkered print painted onto it with a lot of types of games as well. These seats are for children to sit on and if they are spotted there by a Matai or Totara child they will go over and see if they can help them by playing a game or just being a friend.  The second initiative is to support those children who may be having problems with their learning, friendship problems or anything at all that they need help with. They can come to Learning Space 18 every Monday at 12.45. They can bring their lunch and talk about what is happening and how the ILG can help.

A special thank you to school mums, Kate Carter, Juliet Milne and Siew-Siew Chua for helping the group paint the seats.  ILG would appreciate it if you would talk to your children about this information.

South West Zone Winter Tournament

The South West Zone Winter Tournament is being held on 27th July (P.P 1 August) at Hagley Park from 9am – 12 noon. Children involved (Year 5, 6, 7 and 8) will be bused to the venue.  The goal is to qualify for the Primary School Winter Tournament, which is held on the 25th of August.  Congratulations to those children who have made the various teams and good luck.

40 Hour Famine

40 hour famine update: Cashmere Primary School raised an absolutely unbelievable amount of $5,975.20! (up from $3000.00 in 2015) .That’s more than enough to set up and resource two entire classrooms in Azraq refugee camp.  Thank you to the children who rose to the challenge and all the families and friends who supported them in this amazing effort. Well done everyone.
