Kia ora Whānau

We are looking forward to seeing you all over the next two evenings at our student led conferences. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and share the successes and achievements of all children.

As we approach the end of the term, I would again like to thank all students and staff for what has been another amazing term. There have been many exciting opportunities across the term, many of which would not have been possible without your support. If you have been involved this term as a parent helper either on a school trip or in the learning spaces, thank you.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable break with your whānau and I look forward to seeing you all, for the second half of the year, next term.

Ngā mihi nui

Gavin Burn, Principal

40 hour famine

A huge thank you to all those children (and their friends and family who have supported them), who have contributed to 2016's famine. Most children have now returned their packs and we have raised a $3000 so far, which is enormous and will do so much good in the world. There are still a few children to get their packs in and World Vision have asked that we have this done by the end of this week. Please encourage and remind your children to tick this job off and get it back to school asap. Many thanks.  We will let you know the grand total in term 3.

Parent evening with Lucy Hone and John Quinn

We had a great turn out for the meeting last week at school and some very positive feedback from the parents we have spoken to who attended. Lucy and John shared some great insights with us around building resilient children who can and will cope with life’s challenges in a positive way. Lucy and John will be back for another session in term 3 and we will let you know the details early in term 3.

Staffing

Anneke a Campo , our ESOL tutor across the school and French teacher in Matai has been on leave for Term 1 and 2 and Farah Khosraavi has done a wonderful job in Anneke's place. As Anneke is returning in Term 3 we farewell Farah and thank her for all her hard work. Farah's private French lessons at school on a Thursday lunch time will still continue .

Music Achievements

South Schools' Music Festival - Matai Choir and our Orchestra were involved in this performance last week. All students performed to an incredibly high standard and it was a pleasure for the teachers who were involved to support these talented young people. A special mention to Ruby Geddes, who sang a stunning solo part in one of the massed choir items. Ka rawe!

Christchurch Schools' Music Festival Special Groups

Piwakawaka Learning Space Inquiry

For our inquiry in the Piwakawaka Space we are learning about igloos. The Piwakawaka Inquiry group have decided to make a milk bottle igloo. It is a huge job which was started today.  So far we have used approximately 150 milk bottles and we have run out!  We need your help.

What can you do to help?

Please send to the Piwakawaka Space (Miss Wright in the Epicenter) any 2 litre milk bottles (Meadow Fresh, Anchor, Pams, Dairy Dale shaped). They must be cleaned out and come with lids please so that we can avoid a smelly igloo.  We will be collecting for the remainder of the week so keep them coming. Thanks in advance for your help with this!

Support for our school families - A message from the PTA

There has been a tab set up at Taste@20 as a small but practical gesture of support for the three families in our school community who we know are directly dealing with illness . As well as their yummy food, coffee and hot chocolate Taste@20 make the most amazing juices which are highly nutritious and delicious.

It's just a little thing we can do to show our ongoing support to Eugenie Wang, Jonty Gray and the Pawson family.

So if you are popping into Taste@20 or just passing by on your way up/down the hill, please consider asking the lovely ladies to add your change (or a bit more) to the tab for these lovely Cashmere Primary School folk.

We'll let you know if other ways to show our ongoing support and aroha come up over the weeks ahead.

Kind regards, The PTA
