Kahukura Matariki Festival

Last Thursday evening our Year 4-8 Kapa Haka group performed at our Kahukura Matariki Festival. This celebration was hosted by Burnside High School and all schools from our cluster took part.

For those who do not know, we (Cashmere Primary School) belong to a learning cluster named ‘Kahukura’. The other primary schools that are also part of this cluster are; Thorrington School, Somerfield School, Addington School, Sacred Heart School, Christchurch South Intermediate and West Spreydon School.

Every school in our cluster performed to an audience of over 700 parents, staff and whānau in what was a truly authentic celebration of Matariki, Te Reo and Māori culture. Our tamariki performed exceptionally well and we are all very proud of them. A special thanks to Mary, Anton and all adults who support our kapa haka group.

A mihi to the children of this school and the Kahukura cluster for your kapahaka performance this week.

Parent Evening 7-8pm on the 27th June

We would like to invite you to join us on Monday evening the 27th of June for a parent information evening. Well being and character education are becoming part of the educational offering in many schools - both here in NZ and internationally. Come and join us for an evening seminar looking at why schools are focusing on these skills. Lucy Hone and John Quinn from the 100 Percent Project will present the work they are currently doing with other schools in Christchurch. For more information, visit their website, http://www.100percentproject.co.nz/.

Please use this link to register (this will help determine the venue).

Student Led Conferences

We are looking forward to celebrating your child’s learning in week 10, Monday 4th July and Tuesday 5th July

Your 10 minute, one on one conference, time with the teacher will be pre-booked by you through the web based booking system. We invite you to go into the class 10 – 20 minutes before the interview or stay in the class up to 10 - 20 minutes after the interview to listen to your child explain their learning and to show you evidence of this. Please question them and provide feedback on the learning that they share with you.

As in previous years up to five families can be in the learning space over 50 minutes together. When you arrive at school just go into your child’s learning space. No more sitting outside in the cold.

Children are to be collected at the normal time of 2.55pm on both days This organisation allows us to fit interviews in over two nights from 3.20pm – 7pm without having to ask parents to collect children early.

Interviews start at 3.20pm for the Kowhai, Matai and Totara teams and at 3.30pm for the Rata team.

NB: if you book the last conference time then you will need to be in the learning space prior to your scheduled conference to hear from your child about their learning.

We have staggered the last conference time as we are aware that our younger children often have an earlier bedtime:

Year 1 and 2 last conference time 6.20pm

Year 3 last conference time 6.30pm

Year 4-8 last conference time 6.40pm

You will be called upon for your 10 minute (one on one) time with the teacher at the time you have booked.

To book your time with a teacher please go to:http://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/ .

The code is: smwdf. The interview booking site will be open from Monday June 20 and will close on Wednesday 29 June 3pm.
