Physical Activity

Mrs Andrews is the teacher in charge of sport and pysical activity supported by the sports co-ordinator Andy Gibson (Release Sports). The main emphasis is on physical activity, physical fitness and healthy choices. Physical education, fitness, and sports programmes are part of the physical activity programme. We appoint a sports coordinator administration assistant to support the school's sports programme.  Our children are well supported by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) with smart uniforms to wear and we are very appreciative of the help we receive from parents helping to coach and manage sports teams. The recent Christchurch Earthquakes and damage caused does limit the school's access to some venues and transport options. The school will contine to work hard to ensure our programme proceeds as planned and intended.

While the school grounds are somewhat restrictive, all students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting activities. Much of the sport for Years 1 to 6 is based on the Kiwi Sports programme that spends a great deal of time on developing skills. Our school is part of the Hillary Commission Fair Play Code.

Sports available at the senior level:
Summer: tennis, softball, cricket, basketball and volleyball.
Winter: hockey, netball, rugby, and soccer.

The school also participates in the South East Schools' Zone swimming, athletics, cross country and winter sports tournaments for ages 9 to 13 years.

For each of these tournaments we undertake preparatory skills programmes and selection as well as our own sports activities.

Other sports activities:
School teams (affiliated to an outside club) are entered in Saturday morning netball.
From time to time, as interest prevails, teams are entered in evening competitions for volleyball and basketball.
