Home Zone

The increasing number of parents wishing their children to enter the school has meant the Board of Trustees has had to impose an enrolment scheme to avoid overcrowding. Children within the boundaries of that zone have absolute right of entry. Priority for children, who live out of zone, is given in order: to siblings of children currently attending; siblings of children who previously attended; children of staff members at the school and all other children.

All students who live within the home zone described below (and shown on the map) shall be entitled to enrol at the school.  Type Cashmere Primary School into the search box and the school zone will be displayed.

The zone includes an area extending to streets on the southern side of Heathcote River. Cashmere Road west to the intersection of Opihi Street; Centaurus Road east to Rossmore Terrace; the Summit Road being the southern boundary. The houses on both sides of the following streets are included within the above boundary: Cashmere Road to Opihi Street intersection; streets in the Cracroft area: - Bridgemere Lane, Holmcroft Court, Hurunui Street, Pahau Place, Waiau Street, Waipara Street, Worsleys Road, Shalamar Drive, Bengal Drive and all streets running off them; Dyers Pass Road, Hackthorne Road, Kidson Terrace, Longhurst Terrace, Victoria Park Road and including all streets running off them; Centaurus Road to Rossmore Terrace including Merlewood Lane, St Vincent Street and Paulus Terrace. Proof of residence within the home zone will be required.

The number of children entering school for the first time (at age 5 years) should be about 50-60 each year. Efforts are made to have pre enrolments by 01 November in the year prior to their 5th birthday. Should there then be vacancies some out-of-zone enrolments may gain entry through a ballot being undertaken to select any additional children. An advertisement will be placed in The Press providing details of out of zone places prior to the ballot. The criteria above will be used for all out of zone enrolments. The enrolment of out of zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education Act 1989.
